Ossining Man Drove Into Stairs, Charged With DWI

An Ossining man was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated yesterday at around 4:45 a.m.

According to police reports, Robert Nichols, 21, of Spring Street, drove down Broad Avenue and made a right turn onto Spring Street without stopping for a flashing red light and without signaling a right hand turn. Police say that Nichols later made an abrupt turn into a driveway off Spring Street and stopped his car after striking some porch stairs.

After observation and questioning, it was determined that Nichols was driving while intoxicated, police said.

 

Other notable police blotter items in Ossining include:

- A bedroom window was smashed and a VCR and comforter were left dangling out of the window of a first floor apartment on South Highland Avenue. A resident of the apartment called the police after she heard glass breaking and someone moving around in her apartment, police said. The suspect fled the scene and detectives were called to investigate.

- An inflatable dinghy was reportedly stolen from the Shattemuc Yacht Club sometime between May 31 and June 4 at around 1:15 p.m. According to police, the 2004 white and grey Carribe dinghy with a 1996 Suzuki motor is valued at about $5,600.

- A 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche was reported missing from a visitor parking space at 70 Croton Ave.  Marco Djeljaj, the owner of the vehicle, said he noticed the vehicle missing yesterday at around 11 a.m., after leaving it parked in the lot on June 2. Djeljaj told police that the vehicle contained tools and other items of value.
