Ossining Karate Master Charged With Sex Abuse

Ossining resident and grand master karate instructor, Frank DeMaria, could face up to 35 years in prison after being arraigned Monday for charges against four children, all female victims. According to Janet DiFiore, district attorney, DeMaria was arrested in January after adults reported to Croton Police that he was seen taking girls into the corner of the karate studio, with his hips moving in a gyrating motion.

DeMaria, 67, of 83 Van Cortlandt Ave., allegedly took young female students into a corner of his studio and instructed them, on more than one occasion, to touch his genitals. Reportedly, the incidents took place between November of 2009 and January of 2011, when DeMaria was arrested.

DiFiore described DeMaria as an internationally known karate instructor, who owned and operated a karate school in Croton.

DeMaria was arraigned on three counts of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the Second Degree -- a class D violent felony, two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree -- a class D violent felony, and four counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child -- a class A misdemeanors. His bail was set at $50,000 cash or bond, and he was taken into custody. DeMaria is due in court again on September 6.
