On Saturday, the village will be hosting Harborfest, an all-day celebration featuring live music, talks, the sloop Clearwater boat and capped off by fireworks. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

"We are excited about all of these events," Village Manager Richard Leins said.

Today, the Ossining School District plans to kick off the weekend by bringing kids down to the Clearwater sloop, currently parked in the Hudson.

Harborfest begins Saturday with a 5K run to benefit Ossining Matters, with various events throughout the day. There will be activities for kids related to the water and healthy eating habits.

Various boats will be on display with boat-building demonstrations by local craftsmen. SEAS Westchester will have a small boat regatta at the Ossining Boat and Canoe Club (OBCC). OBCC will also be running a youth fishing program and seineing at the PAL Beach. Booths at Harbor Square will feature a variety of vendors including Hudson River-oriented groups, crafts and artists.

Ossining's Harborfest is being done in conjunction with a state program called Hudson Rising. Similar Harborfests were done for Peekskill, Kingston and Beacon. Ossining is expected to have the most attended Harforbest.

The village will also be showcasing its bicentennial sculptures which were recently profiled in the New York Times and will be having a live art exhibit. Artists will wok on their artwork and and then at 5 p.m. will auction it off.

Talks include a discussion of Grand Central Terminal's 100th anniversary and how it relates to the village's 200th anniversary.

"We are expecting thousands of people," Leins said, noting that Metro North distributed flyers promoting the event on its commuter trains.

Mayor William Hanauer said events like this are all about promoting the economic progress Ossining has made.

"We have turned the corner in our economic development," Hanauer said. "We want to show off what's going on in the village and encourage people to participate whether they are residents or from out of town. The more people you bring in, they discover what a great place this is and come back."
