Ossining Candidate Killed Tied For Town Justice Spot

OSSINING, N.Y. - John Mangialardi, the Ossining town justice candidate killed earlier this month, received half the votes cast for that position, according to early board of elections results Wednesday morning.

Incumbent Michael O’Connor ran for highway superintendent on the Conservative and Independence tickets. Republican candidate Jerry Lent will be running against O'Connor for highway superintendent in the Nov. 5 general election. WIth 85 percent of the vote in, O'Connor garnered five votes - 100 percent.

Voters also can opt to vote for a write-in highway superintendent candidate. Town Justice Nancy Quinn Koba will run on the Independence ticket to seek re-election. Her opponent, John Mangialardi was killed by an alleged drunken driver Sept. 3 while apparently crossing Route 9A in Ossining to put up election signs. Mangialardi's name likely still will appear on the Independence ballot Tuesday. Koba and Mangliardi split the vote 50-50 - 38 votes each with 76 percent in.

Additionally, County Legislator Catherine Borgia is running on the Independence ticket to keep her District 9 seat on the Westchester Board of Legislators. Voters have the option of writing in a candidate for the District 9 seat, which represents Briarcliff Manor, Cortlandt, Croton, Ossining and Peekskill. Borgia received 83 votes - 100 percent - with 86 percent of the vote counted.
