No Station of Shame at Ossining Metro-North

OSSINING, N.Y.. -- When Betsy Lane heard that a contest is being held for the worst train station in the tri-state area, she didn't think the Ossining train station would be nominated.

"It's clean, the people are helpful, the station has a very nice coffee shop," she said.

Jeff Kirschner, a Liberty Lines bus driver who is at the Ossining train station every day agreed.

"The coffee shop (owner) heats my lunch up in his microwave every day," he said.

The website trainjotting.com is making "one final plea" for nominations for "Crappiest Train Station in the Tri-State Area," which can include Metro-North stations and others. The short list for the "Station of Shame" already includes Westchester's North White Plains station.

The website poses this question: "Who's got the most soulless/charmless/depressing station in the (tri-state) region? And the site urges readers to "get those votes in, either in the comments section or via email at Trainjotting@gmail.com.

"OK, time to spice things up in these dog days with a new reader poll. Every year we do the 'Best Damn Commuter Town,' which has been won by Larchmont and Pleasantville in years past, as voted on by Trainjotting users," the website says. "These burgs (have been) saluted for their walkability, entertainment options, access to the city and aesthetics."

But, the website implores, "Let's take it in another direction: What's the worst train station in the region?

"This survey is looking specifically at the worst train station -- dirtiest surroundings. Lamest post-work imbibing options. Crime. Flooding. Inadequate signage. Sour people. Bad parking. Dire need of renovations," the website says.

The winning (or losing?) station will be recognized. "The mayor or town exec in charge of (that) station will be notified of their (train station's) distinction by Trainjotting," the website states.

Nominations for the worst station in the tri-state area can be included either in the Comments section of the website or via email to trainjotting@gmail.com.
