Mobile Shredder's Return To Briarcliff Tops Village Manager's Report

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Briarcliff residents with excess documents can rejoice: the Westchester County mobile shredder is returning to the village next month.

The machine will be available from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, on Van Lu Van Road, a one-way service road between the Youth Center and Atria, an assisted living center off Pleasantville Road.

The village plans to set up dual rows of cars to help with traffic flow, says Village Manager Philip E. Zegarelli.

Residents can bring up to four file-size (10” by 12” by 15”) boxes of confidential papers per household.

Binder clips and covers must be removed.

Not accepted: Business, institutional or commercial papers, junk mail, magazines and newspapers, Zegarelli said.

In other village news:

  • The annual Ragamuffin Parade, co-sponsored by the Recreation and the Fire Departments, is set for 9:30 am., Saturday, Oct. 29. The parade will kick off in front of the Operating Engineer's Building,1360 Pleasantville Road (in between Bella Maiya Day Spa and St. Theresa's Church). Costumed marchers will proceed down Pleasantville Road through the village and end up in the parking lot next to the fire house. There will be entertainment, refreshments and goody bags.
  • Fall leaf pickup will commence after the Department of Public Works completes several grooming and clean-up projects, Zegarelli said. He added that the leaf pick-up schedule will be released at a later date.
  • The Girl Scouts’ coat, sweater and sweatshirt drive to benefit the Ossining Food Pantry will run until Friday, Nov. 4. They will be accepting gently worn coats of all types and sizes. For coat-collection locations, contact Jenny Sendek at (917)-359-8119.
  • The Briarcliff Manor Rotary Club is sponsoring a basketball event to raise funds for its scholarship program. The game is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4 at Briarcliff High School. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; seating is first-come, first-served. Taking on local talent will be the Harlem Magic Masters. Advance tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Briarcliff Public Library, 1 Library Road, and Weldon’s Stationery, 1161 Pleasantville Road. Tickets are $18 at the door. All proceeds go toward Briarcliff Rotary High School Scholarships and other student-related activities. For more information, contact Eric Lebenson at (914)-924-3596.
