Greenburgh Installs Bike Safety Signs On Hartsdale Avenue

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Residents will be alerted to walk bicycles on sidewalks once signs are posted on East Hartsdale Avenue this week, according to town Supervisor Paul Feiner.

The signs that will be posted will advise bicycle riders to walk their bicycles on the sidewalk — not to ride them.

"Many elderly residents live on East Hartsdale Avenue, and they walk to and from their apartments to downtown East Hartsdale Avenue," said Feiner.

"Because East Hartsdale Ave is such a busy road, many cyclists bike on the sidewalk – sometimes cycling fast. It’s dangerous. If a bicycle hits an elderly resident, there could be serious injuries.

"If you see a bicyclist who is riding their bike on the sidewalk, please encourage them to walk. Many elderly and disabled residents will feel safer walking and won’t be worried that they will be hit by a bicyclist."
