Concerts, Wildlife For Weekend Around Ossining

Looking for things to do this weekend around Ossining? Here's a list of family-friendly outdoor activities you can enjoy during the weekend, which is predicted to be sunny and warm:

Friday

Ossining waterfront concert, 7:30 p.m.

Funk, blues and soul band Cool Shoes will play on the stage by the Hudson River, next to the Ossining train station.

Big Band Music on the Boardwalk, 7:30 p.m.

Milt Gerver and his orchestra will play big band music on the Playland Park boardwalk in Rye.

Fireworks at Playland Park, 9:15 p.m.

Come out to see fireworks accompanied by music. Admission is free, parking costs $5.

Saturday

"Wind Serenade" Summer Concert, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Enjoy a concert at Lasdon Park, Arboretum & Veterans' Memorial, Route 35, Somers.

Light refreshments will be for sale. Admission is $17 for adults, $12 for seniors, $7 for children ages five through 12 and free for children under five.

Read Sanctuary Volunteer Corps Workday, 10 a.m.

Help spruce up the Read Wildlife Sanctuary in Playland Park in Rye. The volunteer corps will remove invasive plants, do trail maintenance, clear debris from the salt marsh and other tasks. Lunch is donated by the Friends of Read Wildlife Sanctuary.

Muscoot Farm Birdwalk, 8 a.m.

Naturalist Arthur Green will lead a bird walk through the backfields of Muscoot Farm on Route 100 in Somers. Bring binoculars and wear sturdy shoes.

Going With the Flow: The Art of Beekeeping, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Beekeeper Ralph Szur will lead a tour of the bee hives at Muscoot Farm. Learn how many miles bees fly to make one pound of honey, how much of our fruit, seed and vegetable supply is bee-dependent and more.

Polish Heritage Celebration, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Enjoy ethnic food, music, dance, entertainment and arts and crafts at the Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla. Admission is free.

Teatown Insectmania, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Go a little buggy at Teatown Lake Reservation as nature specialists introduce you to six-legged creatures. Admission is free for members, $5 for non-members.

Life Down a Stream, 2 p.m.

Discover insect larvae, fish and other creatures in the spring-fed streams of the Marshlands Conservancy on Route 1 in Rye. Long pants and shoes are recommended.
