OSSINING, N.Y. John Codman and Catherine Borgia are inviting the public into their homes Saturday.
The village deputy mayor and Westchester legislator are having their homes evaluated as a part of an energy savings initiative known as Energize Ossining, according to a press release. The program is a collaboration of both the Town and Village of Ossining and the Energize New York state program that assists eligible homeowners in getting a comprehensive home energy assessment.
Codman and Borgia are set to host people in their Ossining homes at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., the press release said. With the open houses Saturday, Ossining becomes the second of 14 towns in Northern Westchester to introduce the program.
Codman said in a press release that the program should be a benefit even with this years warmer winter.
We got lucky this winter, but usually this time of year is painful when it comes to energy costs, Codman, who lives at 37 Ferris Place, said in the release. This is a great benefit that all homeowners should take advantage of and I hope everyone in town will consider a home energy assessment. This is the most significant thing a homeowner can do to affect their familys energy consumption.
Energize Ossining is a community-based energy efficiency program funded through Department of Energy (DOE) and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) grants, according to the release. Once the evaluation is complete in a residents home, the results are shared with the homeowner to help determine what home improvements to pursue.
Borgia, who lives at 19 Audubon Drive, said in the release that improvements dont need to be drastic to be helpful to a homeowner.
This is not about changing the way you live, but about doing more with what we have, Borgia said in the release. Conservation, energy independence and the environment go hand in hand. I feel this issue has a wonderful dynamic in that saving money and helping the environment are not in conflict, but complementary.
More information is set to be released to the public at 7 p.m. March 8 in the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center for an Energize Ossining Community Launch. Those looking for more information are asked to visit the Energize Ossining website.
