The entire New York stretch of I-84, which runs from the border with Pennsylvania to the border with Connecticut, is affected, Cuomo's office added.

There are some exceptions to the ban, as Cuomo's office said that "only emergency personnel, first responders, and other critical healthcare personnel will be permitted on the roadway."

Cuomo announced earlier on Tuesday that tractor trailers were banned from I-84.

Meanwhile, Cuomo also announced that a tractor-trailer ban has been imposed for Interstate 87, which goes from Albany to Canada. That ban is also effective at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Additionally, Cuomo's office noted that existing tractor-trailer bans remain in effect for Interstate 81, Interstate 88, Interstate 86 (including nearby Route 17) and the New York State Thruway.
