The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) award is presented to nurses in over 1900 hospitals worldwide throughout the year as a way to honor their skill, dedication, compassion and commitment to the patients and families they work so tirelessly to care for. Every month local Cinnabon franchises provide Cinnabon products for the regular DAISY ceremonies held at hospitals around the country.

Today, however, the nursing staff at Westchester Medical Center paid tribute to the local Cinnabon franchise at the Galleria Mall in White Plains, by presenting the staff with a an honorary DAISY award.

“Every month the team at Cinnabon in White Plains ensures that we have fresh Cinnabon products to celebrate our nurses at our DAISY award programs,” said Erin Facelle, RN, Pediatric Nurse Manager at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center. “We thought this would be a nice way to say thank you to Cinnabon and the local franchisee and to let them know how much we appreciate their ongoing support of our nurses and this important recognition program.”

The Daisy Foundation, a 501c3, was created to honor and pay tribute to extraordinary nurses. The foundation was formed in January, 2001, by the family of Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). According to his family everyone who met Pat, even just once, was touched by his positive spirit and his sense of humor. The DAISY Foundation was established to keep his very special spirit alive and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses throughout the country each and everyday.

Hospital patients, visitors, nurses, physicians and other hospital staff and or guests can nominate a nurse for the DAISY Award by submitting a simple form available throughout the participating hospital or Medical Center.
