Westchester Company Sells Gold for Cash, Community

Matt Gullotta doesn’t want to buy your jewelry without giving you your money’s worth.

That’s why when customers set up a home or office party with his company, North American Refinery to trade silver, gold or platinum pieces for cash, he will weigh each piece per gram and test its value in front of them. If it is gold, that means compensation for a 10, 14, 18 or 22 karat value.

Gullotta said his company is built on credibility and helping members of his community to earn some extra money.

“I learned as much as I could about the business and said, “I think I could do this myself,” remembered the Ossining resident.

A year into the business, Gullotta now does most of his parties based on client referrals and word-of-mouth marketing.

So why do clients come back? It pays (literally) to be a host: for bringing 15 people, North American Refinery will give the host an added bonus of $100. For 20 people, a bonus of $200 will be administered and $300 for bringing 30 guests.

With offices in Tarrytown and Ossining, Gullotta and his wife Cinthia tend to focus on sales in Westchester County but will travel to host parties in New Jersey and Connecticut if it interests the customer.

Gullotta is also a lifelong resident of Westchester and has made it his mission to give back to the local community. For instance, the team has donated funding to organizations like the Ossining Recreation Community Center, the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Tarrytown and Family Ties, which aids individuals suffering from emotional psychological challenges.

North American Refinery also offers 12 percent of every total sale to benefit non-profit organizations, so Yorktown’s Support Connection and the Ossining High School Parent Teacher Association have started having gold parties to fundraise.

“I live here and grew up here. It’s great to say I have an opportunity to give back to my community,” he said.

When they aren’t working, Matthew and Cinthia Gullotta spend time with their 10 year-old daughter Amilia and eight-year-old son, Matthew.
