Crumb will serve in the ministry in the Asia Region as the newest priest of the Maryknoll Society.
The Mass of Ordination at Maryknoll’s Queen of Apostles Chapel was celebrated by Bishop Peter Byrne, an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of New York. Maryknoll Superior General Father Raymond J. Finch was a concelebrant, along with more than 50 priests from the Maryknoll Society and other religious organizations.
Later in the day, Crumb received his missionary crucifix at the Maryknoll Sending Ceremony that presents candidates to the world as Maryknoll missioners.
He celebrated his first Mass at Maryknoll’s Queen of Apostles Chapel on Sunday.
“Serving others was part of growing up,” in Glenwood, Minn., said Crumb, who explained that his parents were his first role models.
He graduated in 1997 from Minnewaska Area High School, where he played basketball, baseball and football. He became interested in the priesthood when he majored in social work and minored in theology with the Benedictine Monks at St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minn.
Crumb entered Maryknoll in August 2008 to begin the initial formation program. He then began studies for his master in divinity degree at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.
He spent three years, during his Overseas Training Program in Bolivia, in a variety of ministries that included mentoring students at a boarding school, teaching confirmation classes, prison ministry, parish work, tutoring students at after school program and volunteering with a parish community garden project.
“Being a missionary priest means doing sacramental work and also being in the streets with the people,” said Crumb. “Instead of having my own family, I will be a father to the larger family. I am called to live like Jesus: eating with sinners, healing the sick, sharing the Good News.”
