Richard Schaab, 71, Longtime Ossining Resident

OSSINING, N.Y. – Richard D. Schaab Sr., 71, a longtime resident of Ossining, died Wednesday, April 18.

He was born June 6, 1940, to Douglas and Helen (O'Brien) Schaab. He graduated from Pearl River High School in 1958 and College of the Holy Cross in 1962. Schaab then joined the U.S. Navy and attained the rank of lieutenant. He worked for Union Carbide from 1966 to 1983 and the Westchester County Association from 1986 to 2005.

Schaab was active in Junior Achievement of Westchester for many years. He was also very active with St. Augustine Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and lector, and on many committees.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jane; a son, Richard Jr.; a daughter, Jane Anne; and two sisters, Ellen Sonnenfroh and Mary Wicklund.

Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at Dorsey Funeral Home in Ossining. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Augustine Church in Ossining. Burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery.
