OSSINING, N.Y. Lifelong Ossining resident and U.S. Navy veteran Stanley Carney died Dec. 8. He was 86.
He was born Nov. 11, 1925 to Joseph and Pearl Purdy Carney and he attended Ossining schools. Carney worked as an assistant manager at A&P grocery stores and served a three-year stint in the Navy. He then worked at Hudson Wire in Ossining before starting a career at Ossining Union Free School District.
Carney worked as a custodian at Park School for 39 years before retiring in 2010 at the age of 84. His greatest honor had been escorting a teacher down the aisle to give her away at her marriage ceremony.
He was a congregant at Living Word Christian Church in White Plains as well as an usher. He enjoyed fishing and could be found out at Cross River or on the sound in Mamaroneck.
Carney is survived by his sister Mary (George) Tryon. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Joseph and Ralph Carney and his sister Ethel Ecke.
Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at Ossining Funeral Home . A celebration of his life will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Living Word Church, followed by interment at Dale Cemetery in Ossining.
