OSSINING, N.Y. -- Ossining's Wobble Cafe has some of the best food in the country, at least according to General Mills.
On Wednesday, Beylka Krupp, owner of Wobble Cafe, at 21 Campwoods Road, was honored with a $10,000 check by General Mills Foodservice for being a finalist in the Neighborhood to Nation for her shrimp etoufee over cornbread recipe.
General Mills asked neighborhood restaurants to submit a recipe for a dish that reflects their local favor. The recipe was inspired by Krupp's time in New Orleans.
Wobble Cafe was selected with two other finalists who will travel to Minneapolis to find out if they win the $40,000 grand prize. A $10,000 donation will also be made to a local charity.
"This is a win for Ossining, not just for us," Krupp said. "The focus was to bring small neighborhood businesses to the nations attention. Small businesses are the backbone of what makes a small town so wonderful. I'm really excited to have Ossining be in the spotlight in a positive way."
Krupp said Ossining is the perfect place to run a family owned business.
"Ossining has a great small town attitude with big amenities," Krupp said. "I'm from a small town in Vermont and Ossining is like that small town. You have a good selection of people, background, ages, interests and heritages. Everyone communicates well."
Wobble Cafe will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary on April.
"That's a milestone in the restaurant business," Krupp said.
The restaurant was started when Krupp realized foodies didn't have any good restaurants to take their children after she had her son.
"We wanted to open a restaurant where you didn't have to feel you weren't welcome if you brought your children," Krupp said. "Restaurants need to rethink the way they serve people with kids."
At Wobble, Krupp is big on putting the community fist and is known for always being involved with Ossining events.
"We talked to the community to build our menu," Krupp said. "Some people have time, some have skill and others have money. We like to donate our skills."
Krupp said the whole experience with General Mills has been a whirlwind.
"I am so appreciative," Krupp said.
