Mayor Hanauer Sees Opportunity For New Village Residents, Merchants

Bill Hanauer is in his fourth term as Mayor of the Village of Ossining, which includes more than 25,000 residents and eight thousand households. It’s been a busy period and the mayor took a few moments to highlight some goals that have been met in this current term.

• Harbor Square will complete the approval process and begin to construct 188 units on the waterfront. This comes eight years after we agreed to sell the waterfront property and after several false starts.

• The “We Can Do It” property on Main Street is being developed with architecture harmonious with that of our historic district.

• The Trustees and I have begun to study development of our Main Street parking lots, which were a result of “Urban Renewal” of decades ago.

• The former BASF property is being developed as 168 units. The owners have ceded 8.5 acres for us to extend the Wheeler Crawbuckie Nature Preserve and will build a continuation of Riverwalk through our new and their properties.

• Despite the slowly recovering economy, the Village continues its very high Aa2 Moody's rating, and remains, according to independent auditors, in excellent financial condition.

• The Bicentennial celebration brought the entire Village together and the sculpture exhibit brought praise, even in the New York Times, and visitors from around the region.

All this will allow us to bring new residents, restaurants and merchants into the Village and spread the tax base - a goal of mine since 2005.
