Letter: Support the School Bond

The authors of this Letter to the Editor are Ossining residents

There is a very important vote coming for those like our family who reside in the Ossining School District. I urge fellow community members and taxpayers to become educated on the bond issue and vote "Yes" on Tuesday, March 6th. I believe if this bond proposal is rejected it will have a large negative impact on the value of our homes and the education of our children. For our family with young children about to enter school age, it will likely determine if we stay in this community or move - and I do not think we are unique.

We chose to live in the Ossining School District above other communities because the district has great academic programs and a healthy cultural and economic diversity. Unfortunately, the combination of increasing enrollment with a frankly decrepit infrastructure has led to a situation where the physical environment is in our opinion no longer conducive to a quality education and is in some instances simply unsafe. This bond if passed, will address the most pressing of the building infrastructure without increasing our taxes.

I realize that many of us who live in the "West End" of New Castle fairly feel our tax burden is disproportionate. But a no vote on this bond will not solve that issue and will have a strong negative impact on our community. Please become educated on this issue and please go vote "Yes" at the Ossining High School on Tuesday, March 6th.
