I have known Dana Levenberg for years and I admire her as person, a friend, a colleague on the Ossining Micro Fund and an accomplished woman in so many areas. In this letter I will focus on her work in starting the Ossining Micro Fund.
Levenberg learned there were many people in our community faced with one-time emergency financial needs. If they could get over that hurdle, their lives would be able to get back on track. Here are some of the ways the Ossining Micro Fund loans have helped recipients: the purchase of a county bus pass to get to a new job, emergency dental and medical expenses and a security deposit on an apartment so a recipient could move into a safer living situation.
The people who needed these small loans are hard working with a source of income to pay back the loan – they just needed a larger sum to address the immediate situation. The fund raises money to provide small, no-interest loans to individuals with one-time obstacles, which are repaid in small increments.
Volunteers for the Ossining Micro Fund work with loan recipients to map out a budget and spending plan, helping them improve their financial management skills. More than $80,000 has been loaned so far through this revolving fund. This is just one example of the dedication and caring Levenberg exhibits daily to help the Ossining community.
I know she will bring this special quality of concern for others and innovative solutions to her work as town supervisor. Please join me in voting for Dana Levenberg for Ossining Town Supervisor Nov. 3. Let this extraordinary person continue to serve Ossining in an extraordinary way.
