HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Longtime Hastings Youth Advocate Director Bill Finkeldey will be honored by the Hastings Department of Recreation Tuesday at the James Harmon Community Center at 7:30 p.m.

The 63-year-old Ossining resident has been a fixture in the village for 30 years, working with the school district, recreation department and local youth as a counselor and advocate before retiring late last year.

Finkeldey also fostered 13 children over the years and ran a food bank out of the Hastings Community Center for the last several years.

Raised in the village, Finkeldey graduated from Hastings High School before going on to Connecticut College and Columbia University, where he earned a master's degree in public health.

Finkeldey was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease last year, forcing him to retire earlier than he had planned.
