Purple Heart recipient Robert Katzenoff, an Atria Briarcliff resident, was honored with his family for National Purple Heart Day.
In attendance for this special recognition were Kemi Pogue, Engage Life Program Instructor; Specialist Johnnie Williams, Vietnam Combat War Veteran and CEO of Help is on the Way; Dina Ciaramella, Lions Club District 20-R1 Governor; and Army Captain Amy Castleberry.
A proclamation presented to Katzenoff was signed by retired Army Lt. Colonel Neil Gross, Chapter Commander, Order of the Purple Heart.
Pogue arranged the event for the war hero and his family, and the celebration was for the entire Atria Briarcliff community.
George Washington created The Purple Heart on Aug. 7, 1782 and about 1.8 million have been awarded.
The medals are presented to those wounded or killed as a result of enemy action.
