Sponsored by Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES Project AWARE and delivered by certified instructors, the training will offer participants a five-step action plan that will provide adults with the knowledge to help youth experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is a nationally recognized, eight-hour certification course that teaches the risk factors and warning signs of mental health challenges common among adolescents and de-stigmatizes mental illness  so youth receive the assistance they need.

The training is optimal for fire and police officers, parents, family members, teachers, school staff, coaches, camp counselors, caseworkers, after-school program providers, mentors or any other person or group dealing with youths on a daily basis.

Participants must attend all eight hours to receive certification.

For further information or to register for one of the trainings, contact Julie Klaber, WJCS youth mental health first aid coordinator at (914)-761-0600 ext. 116 or jklaber@wjcs.com, or Debra Caputo, Project AWARE coordinator at debramcaputo@gmail.com.
