Friday, May 17

Meditation Class at Ossining Library: 4 p.m. This is a free class and is not a library sponsored program. A meditation technique named Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) will be presented, developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn. For additional information, e-mail June at junesey2000@yahoo.com. The class is open to all and pre-registration is not required. Ossining Public Library, 53 Croton Ave.

State Comptroller Visits Ossining: 11 a.m. New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli is hosting a series of events to “return $196 million in unclaimed funds his office is holding for Westchester County residents,” according to a press release. He is launching the effort at 11 a.m. Friday at the Ossining Public Library, 53 Croton Ave.

Briarcliff vs. Ossining Softball To Strike Out Breast Cancer: 3:45 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The Briarcliff High School Varsity and Junior Varsity softball teams are hosting two very special games vs. Ossining to support the fight against breast cancer. “Striking Out Breast Cancer” will consist of bake sales, lanyard sales and other activities, in addition to the two games, with all proceeds donated to the Susan G Komen Foundation. Both games will be held at Law Memorial Park (near the Atria and Library). The Varsity Bears will take the field at 3:45 p.m. with the JV squad to follow at 5:30 p.m.

Briarcliff Library Presents Guilt Trip: 7 p.m. The Briarcliff Manor Public Library presents the film “Guilt Trip.” A traveling salesman talks his mother into heading out on the road with him so that he can, unbeknownst to her, reunite her with a former fling in this comedy starring Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogen. The theme is “From the Dawn’s Early Light to American Idol – The Music of Our Land.”  The repertoire includes “This Land is Your Land,” “Home,” a medley of Ray Charles’ hits, “Satin Doll,” and more.  Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $5 for children under 12.

“Old Mill Singers” in Ossining: 8 p.m. The Old Mill Singers will perform Friday and Saturday at Ossining High School. The theme is “From the Dawn’s Early Light to American Idol – The Music of Our Land.”  The repertoire includes “This Land is Your Land,” “Home,” a medley of Ray Charles’ hits, “Satin Doll,” and more.  Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $5 for children under 12.

Ossining Farmers Market: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Down to Earth Markets hosts the Ossining Farmers Market at the corner of Spring and Main Streets in downtown Ossining. The market will gather many of the vendors the Ossining community has come to love: Amazing Real Live Food Company, Baked by Susan, Bread Alone, Feather Ridge Farm, Gajeski Produce, Hudson River Apiaries, Meredith’s Country Bakery, Migliorelli Farm, The Pastures, Pickle Licious, Pika’s Farm Table, Pura-Vida Fisheries, and Tierra Farm. The winter market will run every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through May 18.

Sunday, May 18

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Open Tour: Noon. The church will open its doors this weekend as part of the New York Landmarks Conservancy 2013 Sacred Sites Open House Weekend. The  tours are from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 669 Albany Post Road, Scarborough.

Ossining Boat and Canoe Club Commissioning Day: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Boat and Canoe Club will hold its Commissioning Day at the Boat Club. The group will have a Veterans ceremony at 11 a.m. for service members lost at sea, followed by their commissioning. Musical accompaniment will be provided by volunteer members of our Ossining community from the Ossining High School Chorus. Potluck lunch will follow. Ossining Boat and Canoe Club.

BMEF'S Open Greenhouse Day at Briarcliff Middle School: 1 p.m. Come check out the BMEF's Open Greenhouse Day at Academia at Briarcliff Middle School. On Sunday, May 19, from 1 to 3 p.m., children and their families can enjoy fun activities, including student-run tours of the Greenhouse and Academia, scavenger hunt, plant herbs and learn more about plants, meet the Briarcliff High School cheerleaders and learn some simple cheers  and more. Admission is FREE, although donations to the BMEF are welcome.  In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Middle School Gym.

May Art Exhibit At Ossining Library: Library Hours. The Ossining School District’s Annual Art Show will take place from May 1 to 30 at the Ossining Public Library. This art exhibit includes students’ artwork from grades k-12. Ossining Public Library, 53 Croton Ave.
