Norwalk Supermarkets Open as Roads Close

NORWALK, Conn. – Is your power out? At least you can buy food.

Both the Stop & Shop and the Shop Rite on Connecticut Avenue are open for regular hours, and neither ever lost power. The Stop & Shop on Main Avenue was running on generator power as of Sunday night. There are no perishables in the store, according to an employee who answered the phone.

While most stores on Connecticut Avenue had power Sunday night, the Walmart was dark.

Closed roads in Norwalk include Fairfield Avenue south of West Cedar Street and Soundview Avenue between Michael Street and Highland Avenue. McKinley Road was closed at the Rowayton Community Center as of Sunday afternoon. Witch Lane was also blocked, but it was easy to use other streets to bypass a fallen tree. Holiday Drive was also closed.
