Ossining Art Show Tops Library Events In May

OSSINING, N.Y. -- A student art exhibit is on display from May 1 to 30 at the Ossining Public Library, among an array of special offerings there this spring.

There will be an opening reception of the exhibit showcasing art by students of all ages Wednesday, May 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. for K-5; Thursday, May 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. for grades 6 to 12. There will be light refreshments. All are welcome.

A Fiddle Concert/Book Presentation & Signing with author and fiddler, Harry Bolick will be accompanied by multi-instrumentalist, Brian Slattery in performing and discussing music from Harry’s book “Mississippi Fiddle Tunes and Songs from the 1930’s.” 

Harry Bolick and Brian Slattery have been playing together in the New York City area since 2001, both as the core of Wahoo String Band and as a duo. The free program will be Wednesday May 4 and Thursday May 5 in the Budarz Theater.

The library's annual Children’s Book Sale will be in the Budarz Theater May 3 from 3 to 9 p.m. and May 5 from 5 to 9 p.m. with a variety of children’s books and other fun items available.

Then on May 10 at 3 p.m. find out "How to Make Taxes Less Taxing" with Gloria Fried, Ossining Town & Village Receiver of Taxes. All are welcome to attend.

A reading of "Jug of Silver" by Alan Skar is set for May 11 at 7 p.m. The Truman Capote books is a charming story about Christmas in a small town in Alabama where Capote himself grew up.

A book signing with author G.L Friedman is on tap for May 14 at 10 a.m. His recent book is “Harriet and Her Precocious Pen” – A Transitional Journey, a good choice for adults and kids. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.
