Byrd's film "Desolation Angels: Rise of the Boas" has received more than 30 backers putting up $3,000 of the film's $50,000 goal on Kickstarter with nearly a month to go to fund the project.
Byrd describes the film as a "Greek tragedy set in modern times" that follows the story of "a group of men seeking to escape the fates the gods have decreed," according to the Kickstarter page.
"We are seeking $50,000 to bring this film to the big screen," the filmmakers wrote on the Kickstarter page. "We plan, once it's completed to enter it in as many Film Festivals as we can afford."
Byrd grew up in New England and obtained a in finance and later enrolled in a Masters program in visual communications at Fairfield University. Before completing his degree, Byrd started his career as a photographer at American Shakespeare Theatre where his work became internationally published in magazines such as Vogue, Esquire, Elle and GQ.
Byrd's new production company “Skrew Loose Productions” is in the early stages of production on the film "Desolation Angels: Rise of the Boas." The following is synopsis of the film from the group's Kickstarter page:
"'Desolation Angels-Rise of the Boas' is the story of a group of mercenaries that are hired by a government agency to disrupt the relationship between a Mexican Cartel and the Russian mob. The Mexicans import dope and the Russians distribute it and provide the muscle and protection."
The filmmakers described the risks on the group's Kickstarter page.
"The risk is the timing. We have started shooting with a limited budget and plan on continuing through 2014. We have obtained a number of permits and agreements to shoot on location," the group wrote. "Our challenge is to bring 'Desolation Angels: Rise of the Boas' to a Film Fest, theatre near you."
