North White Plains Fire Department Throws Party

NORTH WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The North White Plains Fire Department threw its children's Christmas party yesterday at the fire station on North Broadway.

Children and their parents watched a magic show and Santa dropped by to give out presents.

The annual event has been held for more than 30 years, Fire Commissioner John Soloman said.

The star of the party was Philip Klipper, a professional magician from Hartsdale, who made his first appearance at the North White Plains party. He delighted the children with a series of close up magic tricks, with disappearing handkerchiefs, bunny rabbits and playing cards. He invited children on stage to assist with the tricks.

After the magic show, Santa, played by veteran North White Plains fireman Joe Conte, walked in with presents for everybody.

Jerry and Christina Blenkle, North White Plains residents, brought their two young children, ages 2 and 9 months. "When I was a kid, I came here for the Christmas party," Christina Blenkle said.

"It's a spirited moment for everybody and gave my children great enjoyment," Jerry Blenkle said.

He also said he brought his children to see Santa on the fire truck, the North White Plains event that was held Saturday.
