Larchmont Family Is Ready for Ragamuffin Parade

LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- Jennifer Degen's children are looking forward to the annual Ragamuffin Parade Saturday, which her oldest, Jacob, has been a part of since he was born.

Jacob, 6, will be an army man, while his younger sisters Maeve and Alex will be a Dalmation and skunk respectively. "I think it's great fun for all the families in Larchmont," said Jennifer, a Larchmont resident.

The parade, which has become a staple in the village, begins at 1 p.m. on the corner of Palmer Avenue and Larchmont Avenue - line-up begins at 12:30 p.m. Families walk to the Larchmont Firehouse along Larchmont Avenue dressed in their costumes. At the end of the parade, the Fire Department provides hot dogs and music for parade-goers until 2:30 p.m.

The village Recreation Department and Fire Department co-sponsor the event, which Joyce Callahan, director of recreation, said draws about 1,000 people each year."It's really more for the kids than anything else," Callahan said.

Wednesday, the Degens stopped by Red Mango, where The Daily Larchmont held office hours this week. If you couldn't make it you can contact local reporter Brian Donnelly by e-mail at bdonnelly@mainstreetconnect.us.
