GREENWICH, Conn. Martin L. Nigro, a lifelong resident of Greenwich and state Superior Court judge, died Sept. 5. He was 82.
Nigro was born in Greenwich on May 4, 1929. He attended St. Marys School on Greenwich Avenue and St. Basils Preparatory School in Stamford. He graduated from Fairfield University in 1951 as part of its first graduating class.
In 1954, Nigro graduated from Yale University School of Law. He became a member of the Connecticut Bar in July 1954 and the Federal Bar shortly thereafter. He served in the Army from 1954 until 1957 and was a columnist for a services newspaper Walters Blade.
Nigro entered law practice with the firm of Heagney, Lennon and Nigro in Greenwich. In 1970, he was appointed the chief prosecutor and later states attorney for the Judicial District of Stamford-Norwalk. He later served as judge of the Court of Common Pleas and judge of the statewide Superior Court, a position he held for 34 years.
Nigro was predeceased by his wife, Anne Sparton Nigro, and his sister, Maureen Nigro Ward. He is survived by his daughter, Suzannah Kim Nigro and her husband, Martin Joseph Denihan, and two grandchildren, Michael Martin Denihan and Samantha Lynn Denihan.
A Mass was celebrated Friday, Sept. 9, at St. Marys Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special Olympics in Martins name.
