The event will be held at the Ossining Public Library, located at 53 Croton Ave.
Parts of the prison are no longer in use, and local residents hope to create a museum in a former power plant on the prison grounds. They look forward to educational museum exhibits that tell the story of Sing Sing and its many famous inmates, while offering historical perspective on changing attitudes toward crime and punishment in America over the last 200 years.
Jerry Faiella, executive director of Historic Hudson River Towns, a non-profit consortium of riverfront communities, is working closely with the Friends group because he is certain the at the new museum will be a huge benefit to all of his organization's members.
"Visitation to the museum could easily surpass 200,000 people per year and contribute significantly to the regional economy," said Faiella. "We see this project as a national and international attraction that will have a major beneficial impact on our member communities, Westchester County and the entire Hudson Valley."
The public is invited to attend at a cost of $75 in advance, or $85 at the door. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served. As a prelude to the event, the Ossining Heritage Center at 95 North Broadway will be open for tours of the Sing Sing exhibit there from 5:30 p.m. to 7 pm.
