Beading Workshop Tops Ossining Public Library Events For February

OSSINING, N.Y. -- In celebration of Black History Month, husband and wife duo, Veron Williams and Linda Hiwot, will exhibit their paintings at the Ossining Public Library, among an array of special events and programs.

Veron paints his native country of Jamaica and Linda paints more abstract imagery. Both are accomplished artists who have exhibited nationally and internationally.

The opening reception is Saturday, Feb. 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome to attend meet the artists in person and browse the artwork in the Hallway Gallery.

The following special events are also in February:

Hallway Gallery: photographer Keith Giametta, "Out of Africa," with opening reception Saturday, Feb. 6, noon to 2 p.m. Light refreshments.

AARP tax aide volunteers: Free tax help, Thursdays, Feb. 4 to April 14, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring necessary paperwork. Sign up at the door.

Jazz musician Ted Daniel and special guests will perform "Bridge Over Troubled Water," among songs, Sunday, Feb. 7, 2 p.m., Budarz Theater.

Beading workshop with artist Jamie Ross: Thursday, Feb. 9, 3 p.m., Budarz Theater. Participants will make earrings. Materials will be provided. Must register at (914) 941-2416, ext. 327.

African Drumming & Dancing: Sunday, Feb. 28, 2 p.m. with local dancer, teacher and artist, Beverly A. Spencer and drummer Lamine Thiam in celebration of Black History Month, Budarz Theater. Snow date is Sunday, March 6.

Resume Help: Mondays, Feb. 1,8,15,22,29 at 2 p.m., by appointment, 2nd floor. Sign up at reference desk or call (914)941-2416, ext. 320

Beginner Yoga for teens and adults: Mondays, Feb. 1,8,15,22,29, 7 to 8:15 p.m. Please bring a yoga mat and blanket. Yoga is taught by trained yoga instructor Catherine Riedel.

Mah Jongg group: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, 1 to 4 p.m. Informal get-together of intermediate and advanced players. There is no assigned instructor for beginners, but if you have a fundamental knowledge of the game, the group will help you to improve your play. No registration necessary.

Memoir Writing class: Tuesdays, Feb. 2,9,16,23, 1:30 p.m. Taught by author/writer Catherine Wald. Registration is required at (914) 941-2416, ext. 327, 2nd floor conference room.

Spanish Conversation: Wednesdays, Feb. 3,10,17,24, 3:30 p.m. Group is geared toward intermediate to advanced Spanish learners, but beginners are also welcome. Instructor is Guillermo Rodriguez. No registration is required.
