Johnson, a former Esquire magazine editor and Life magazine writer, wrote “Lives in Ruins” about the challenges many archaeologists face.

The New York Times Book Review, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, and Salon have all praised the book, which has settings ranging from New York and Rhode Island to Latin America.

“Lives in Ruins” was also honored as one of Publishers Weekly's 100 Best Books of 2014.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. at the library, 53 Croton Ave.
