SET FOR DECEMBER AT OSSINING LIBRARY
-Month-Long Exhibit Illuminates a Lifetime in Art-
OSSINING, NY, Nov. 1, 2012 – Artist, art teacher and longtime Briarcliff Manor resident Paula Blum will be the subject of a retrospective exhibit at the Ossining Public Library throughout the month of December. A Celebration: The Art of Paula Blum commemorates a lifetime of creating, teaching and appreciating art. It will feature approximately 50 of Blum’s works in a wide variety of media including acrylics, watercolors, drawings, collage, linocuts and photography.
There will be an opening reception on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the downstairs gallery of the library, which is located at 53 Croton Avenue, Ossining. All are welcome to attend. The exhibit will run through Dec. 29th and will be on view to the public during library hours.
Mrs. Blum, who earned her M.F.A. from the College of New Rochelle, was a well-known teacher in Briarcliff where she taught painting, drawing and collage to adults through the Briarcliff Manor Recreation Department. Earlier, she taught at Rockland Community College. Her talent and encouraging teaching style earned her a large and devoted following.
She was a longtime trustee of the Ossining Arts Council and exhibited her work in many of the group’s shows. A founding member of BriCa, the Briarcliff Committee for the Arts, she participated in the Arts Abloom shows at the Briarcliff Manor Public Library, both as artist and curator. Her beautiful portrait of her granddaughter, Juliette, is part of the library’s permanent collection. Her work was also exhibited at Northern Westchester Center for the Arts, the Hopper House in Nyack and the New City Village Hall, among other venues.
Paula’s strong spirituality is reflected in her award-winning watercolor “Pre-Prayer Marrakesh” (2003, Northern Westchester for the Arts Award of Excellence) as well as in other paintings in her Moroccan and Meditation series, which will be on display.
