OSSINING, N.Y. -- American Farmland Trust will be hosting its Down to Earth Farmers Market in Ossining on Saturday, Sept. 13, for a special I Love Ossining's Down to Earth Farmers Market celebration.
The farmers market will be held at the intersection of Spring and Main Streets "in the heart of Ossining."
This one-day event is part of American Farmland Trust’s national I Love My Farmers Market Celebration, an annual campaign raising awareness about the role farmers markets play in keeping family farmers on the land. Visit Ossining’s Down to Earth Farmers Market Saturday, Sept. 13, between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Choose from the wide variety of fruits, vegetables and baked goods and pledge your support of family farmers. American Farmland Trust will give away No Farms No Food bumper stickers and made-in-the-USA canvas tote bags to the first 500 people who pledge their support for the market. A pledge is a commitment to shop at the market. We will record the dollars pledged and announce the total at the end of the market’s day. “We are very excited to host American Farmland Trust at our flagship location in Ossining,” said Frankie Rowland, director of community relations for Down to Earth Farmers Markets. “This event is a perfect fit with our diverse mix of vendors -- offering the bounty of the season’s fruits and vegetables along with artisanal baked goods, farmstead cheeses, fresh Atlantic seafood and so much more.”
The market will host the melodies of Les Tappan Zigues from 10 a.m. to noon as well as free yoga in the market square from noon to 1 p.m. “This is the sixth year in a row American Farmland Trust has sponsored the national I Love My Farmers Market Celebration, a summer-long event to recognize family farmers and to raise awareness about community markets,” said Robert Connelly, AFT’s membership manager, who will attend the celebration.
