During the event, Kevin Hines, bestselling author, documentary filmmaker, and suicide prevention and mental health advocate, will tell his story of an unlikely survival and his strong will to live after he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Two years after he was first diagnosed, Hines attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. He is one of only 34 people to survive the fall and he is the only Golden Gate Bridge jump survivor who is actively spreading the message internationally of living mentally healthy .
In addition, Ginger Katz, founder of The Courage to Speak Foundation, will present information about her organization's drug prevention education curriculum which has been evaluated and recommended by Yale School of Medicine. The program called “Courage to Speak - Courageous Parenting 101” gives parents tools to talk to their children about alcohol and drugs.
Save A Life also features the following:
- Premier of “House Parties: Alcohol, Drugs and the Law” public service announcement followed by a panel discussion of professionals in the medical, law enforcement, and social services fields. This workshops is for adults and is sponsored by the Health Alliance on Alcohol.

- Interactive Informational Exhibits showcasing dozens of local organizations and resources including the Westchester County Driving Simulator, Crashed Car and "Hidden in Plain Sight" display which recreates a teen’s bedroom to help parents identify signs their son or daughter may be using alcohol and drugs The event runs from noon to 5 p.m. at the school, 1349 E. Main St., Shrub Oak.
