ShopRite Hopes To Re-Locate To New Cortlandt Manor Spot By 2018

CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- The ShopRite in Cortlandt Manor will be pulling up stakes and relocating to a spot about a mile down the road, a spokeswoman for the supermarket chain said Friday.

ShopRite on Route 6 in Cortlandt Manor is expected to close in 2018 after the supermarket chain moves the store, and its employees, about a mile up the road to the new Cortlandt Crossing Shopping Center.

The move from 2094 Main St. nearer the city of Peekskill to the 65,000-square-foot anchor position at the planned Cortlandt Crossing Shopping Center at 3144 East Main St., however, won’t take place until 2018, said Amanda Quinn, ShopRite’s PR person.

Developers Acadia Realty Trust broke ground for the new shopping center on Friday, Oct. 21.

The 130,000-square-foot retail venture is expected to have 10 stores. It will be located on the north side of Route 6 (East Main Street), just across the way from the real estate investment firm’s first ground-up project in town, the Cortlandt Town Center.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by local dignitaries, including Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi, who said Cortlandt Crossing will provide both jobs and additional revenue for the town, school district and county.

ShopRite said that it expected that all the employees at the current site will make the move with it to the new location.

The chain also said that it plans to add more jobs once the move is made.

Since ShopRite expects to be at the current spot for at least two more years, plans for the building after it moves are still being “formulated,” it said.

ShopRite promised to keep its customers informed as “the process moves along.”

ShopRite is a subsidiary of Wakefern Food Corp., the largest retailer-owned supermarket cooperative in the United States.

It has more than 260 locations throughout the northeast in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Cortlandt Crossing, about three miles west of the Taconic State Parkway, will be right across the road from Cortlandt Town Center, which includes retailers such as Walmart, Marshalls, PetSmart, Barnes & Noble and Best Buy.

“Westchester County remains a vibrant and thriving part of the fabric of New York state, home to several local and nationally recognized retail brands,” said Christopher Conlon, Acadia executive vice president and chief operating officer, after the groundbreaking.

Cortlandt has, Conlon added, “evolved into a viable suburban development hub” for the company’s “growing retail portfolio.”

Tom Urtz, ShopRite’s vice president of operations, said the company promises to provide with new updates and expanded product and service offerings, while “continuing to provide the outstanding customer service, variety, value, low prices and convenient amenities ShopRite is known for.”
