Built on the foundation that traditional musical skills are what every musician needs to move forward, Mike and Miriam Risko have created a program that offers the proper musical, equipment and skill training that musicians need to turn them into rock stars.

The program begins with private lessons in their studios. These lessons are open to any students, even those who wish to follow a more traditional path in studying an instrument. Students are placed with one of 30 teachers and can take a weekly lesson. During these lessons students build a strong foundation in music. The lesson program is offered to any age, including adults. Students learn to read music and to love taking their lessons. From there, they can take rock technique classes, depending on their instrument and interests. A full vocal program provides rock singing techniques to singers, which gives them the chance to perform live onstage on a regular basis in the Rock Star Zone, which is a part of the school dedicated to these classes as well as at outside at events. The Rock Star Zone was part of the music store makeover which was completed in March.

Students can also join a rock band, which meets weekly to rehearse cover songs and write originals, complete with their own gig at the end of each session. Rockers are introduced to different styles of music and are taught skills needed to play in a group.

The Riskos have made a career as local rock stars and will have been sharing their musical expertise with the community for 20 years in 2015. They received the ambassador award in 2014 in Ossining along with Best of Westchester award.

The music school is at 144-146 Croton Ave. For more information, visit http://www.mikeriskomusicschool.com or call 914-762-8757.
