Mount Kisco Seafood, owned by Joe DiMauro, celebrated its 40th anniversary Friday when it was declared Mount Kisco Seafood Day in Westchester.

DiMauro was born in Mount Kisco and graduated Fox Lane High School, where he met his wife, Joni. He ended up being asked to help out Mount Kisco Seafood, and he felt he had found his calling.

"I was always intrigued by the sea and while working in the fish store, I became enamored with the fish business," DiMauro said.

DiMauro bought the store from its original owner in 1979. He prides himself on selling only high-quality fish he gets from the Fulton Fish Market and getting to know his customers.

"I always wanted my business to be a place like "Cheers" where everybody knows your name," DiMauro said.

Mount Kisco Seafood moved to its current location at 477 Lexington Avenue and it started selling fresh meats and vegetables.

DiMauro believes in helping out in the community, participating in seven Avon Walks for Breast Cancer and raising more than $100,000. DiMauro also recently visited Tanzania where he taught English, health, and business skills to teens living in a detention facility.
