Developer Peter Stolaris of Plateau Associates LLC filed a complaint last month claiming that former Ossining Mayor Miguel Hernandez defamed him in a Facebook post. Demolition of the abandoned Brandreth Pill Factory was stopped when officials said the company lacked the necessary permits.

Plateau also filed a lawsuit in state Supreme Court, citing the history of the stalled project and the effect of local bureaucracy on the proposed apartment complex, according to the Westchester Business Journal.

At the heart of the dispute is the property's status as a landmark. It earned the designation in 2013, five years after the property was deemed unsafe and Plateau was given the go-ahead to redevelop it.
