Businesses Form Alliance To Draw Attention To Uptown Ossining

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Ossining businesses have formed an alliance to bring some attention to the uptown area, in addition to creating some unity among the businesses in the Croton Avenue and Campwoods area, as well as part of Pleasantville Road.

This newly formed group recently had its first meeting. With about 20 present, all the business owners introduced themselves and talked about their businesses.

Mike Risko, owner of Mike Risko Music on Croton Avenue, was appointed by the Ossining Chamber of Commerce as Uptown ambassador. The meeting was hosted by Kendra Negron at Dragon Fly Wellness and facilitated by Risko.

The initiative has a lot of plans in the works, including a clean-up day. Brooms will be sold by Melrose Lumber, which also is on Croton Avenue at a discounted rate for Uptown businesses.

Following the clean up, there will be an Uptown event day, in which all the businesses participate and offer sales or activities at their businesses while people will be able to walk the street and enjoy this part of town.

"We love having a business in uptown Ossining, it is such a great part of the village," Risko said. "You can get almost everything you need in this part of town and we want to help get the word out about it, not only to Ossining but to all the communities. I am thrilled to be working with the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce on this project and we are getting lots of support from the mayor too. We think this is really going to make a difference.

"We are hoping to create camaraderie among the businesses, which will organically help with referrals. We will also continue to do what we can to keep cleaning up uptown."
